Infrastructure SME

As an Infrastructure Subject Matter Expert System Engineer, you will be a technical leader in a global support team. You will work closely in tandem with incident coordinators, system engineers, other SMEs and IT functions such as infrastructure, networks, telecoms, enterprise applications… As an experienced member of the team, you will be measured on your ability to accurately gather the knowledge of the Infrastructure, document, coordinate and implement Projects and processes, focusing on automation.

We are looking to build a dedicated team of talented engineers with strong knowledge and experience of infrastructure, documentation, and technical leadership.

You will join our service management team. This will provide a great opportunity to work with system engineer side of technologies and develop your interests across systems.

Responsibilities

• Work on both server-side and client-side system operations.
• Work with the Architecture Team and the Infrastructure Teams to understand company infrastructure and cloud solutions.
• Analyse current technology utilized within the company.
• Interact with Business Analysts, Architects, Technical Leads and other key stakeholders to identify potential processes to be automated/designed across the enterprise of portfolio companies and make our procedures accurate.
• Invest time in developing high quality, maintainable, and scalable solutions/documentation, scripts and playbooks to continuously reduce the human tasks required to operate the production services (toil).
• Gather information from specialized teams and design Standards Operational Procedures for System engineers to follow.
• Ensure the information is spread among the service management team and mentor and train the team on the subject matter expertise.
• Automate and Coordinate automation projects for Standards Operational Procedures with the System engineer team.
• Taking ownership of automation projects over the different environments.
• Own analysis, design and delivery of end to end procedures.
• Investigate new tools/technologies/ideas to promote further improvement of the system.
• Promote and enforce best practices, existing development guidelines and continuous improvements.
• Execute operational tasks for windows, Linux servers, OpenStack clusters and running VMs, Kubernetes clusters and deployed resources.

Requirements

• Experience with Unix/Linux systems (Redhat/CentOS Linux) in a large-scale operations. Script support, design, and implementation.
• Knowledge of virtualization; OpenStack, and VMWare ESX server setup/administration.
• Experience working under Agile frameworks and DevOps principles to ensure continuous value delivery and alignment with business and team objectives.
• Excellent problem solving skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of system engineer experience.
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
• Extensive experience with System/Networking Monitoring.
• Knowledge in network and firewalls (LAN, WAN, IP, network management tools, balancing technology, routings, VPN, Palo Alto products, etc)
• Experience with Scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.)
• Knowledge and understanding of TSDB Systems: InfluxDB/Grafana.
• Intermediate to advanced networking knowledge and architecture is an asset.
• Autonomous, detail-oriented, highly organized, and quick to adapt to changes.
• Be able to follow scrum Methodology
• Willingness to work outside of area of expertise
• Version control systems (Git.)
• General knowledge of Database procedures, such as upgrade, backup, recovery, etc.
• General Knowledge in databases (NoSQL databases as ElasticSearch, Cassandra, Neo4J, MongoDB etc. MySQL, Oracle, SQLServer, distributed NoSQL database.)

Nice to have

• Knowledge in Puppet, Ansible, Terraform or AWX.
• Experience working with OpenStack platform is a plus.
• Experience in Docker usage and writing custom Dockerfiles, Kubernetes.
• Understanding of Continuous delivery, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, ArgoCD, Spinnaker, …) and practices (deployment strategies, micro-service pattern, …)
• Experience in using Terraform to apply Infrastructure as Code.
