Senior Virtualization & Storage Engineer

The Senior Cloud and Data Center Engineer will manage and support our client’s Virtualized Infrastructure stack, with Compute based on OpenStack and VMware vSphere and Storage based on NetApp / Ceph, as well as Cloud environments, primarily running on Google Cloud Platform and IaaS/PaaS providers, from Development through to ownership and support of Production environments.

Additionally the Engineer will provide support with hardware purchases and deployment on the different environments. The role requires network knowledge and the ability to work with Network, System Administration departments to coordinate tasks and projects. Scripting, automation, diagnostics and performance tuning are all responsibilities of the Senior Cloud and Data Center Engineer.

This position is open in Malaga and Madrid; you should be based in one of these cities or willing to relocate and work in a Hybrid model (3 days at home and 2 in the office)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support a large Virtualized environment that hosts 2000+ VMs running VMware vSphere / vSAN 7.0+.
  • Deploy and manage VMware vSphere clusters in Production, Corporate and Test environments.
  • Deploy and manage HPE server hardware, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Capacity planning for the Compute and Storage infrastructure, able to define technical bills of materials.
  • Assist in designing, testing, implementation, and documentation of new infrastructure stacks.
  • Work with stakeholders, project managers and other teams to ensure system designs meet business requirements.
  • Deploy and manage NetApp shared storage devices, including maintenance and incident resolution.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on infrastructure to ensure efficient operations.
  • Maintain and support a backup infrastructure based on Veeam B&R 12+. Manage backup infrastructure such as proxies, repositories, jobs, following best practices.
  • Management of Cloud Infrastructure and Infrastructure as a Service solutions.
  • Interact with third party vendors & contractors, such as data center support and remote hands engineers.
  • Participate on shared team on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • Industry experience (5+ years) with enterprise-level virtualized environments, designing, implementing and maintaining a VMware vSphere ecosystem. VCP-DV Certificate is a plus.
  • Server hardware knowledge and experience, firmware, iLO/BMC, BIOS, PXE, RAID.
  • Experience in data center operations such as remote access, inventory management, rack layouts, structured cabling, hot/cold aisles, security and power.
  • Working knowledge of networking, including routing, switching and firewalls, subnets, addressing schemes, access rules, VLANs.
  • Ability to create and/or update processes, documentation and complex diagrams.
  • Solid understanding of Linux/Unix Administration, Canonical/Ubuntu experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of OpenStack environments.
  • Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills, being able to navigate complex network and service topologies to track down issues.
  • Experience with Automation and Infra-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible is a plus.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize workload and deadlines.
  • Experience working in an ITIL based organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Bilingual in English / Spanish is a plus.
